Fees and Billing Arrangement

All SMSG centres are mixed-billing medical practices. Each doctor and allied health professional is an independent tenant practitioner who sets their own billing arrangements, so fees can vary from one provider to another.

Good healthcare takes time. At SMSG, we want your practitioner to have the space to listen, understand your needs, and provide thorough, preventative care. As Medicare rebates do not cover the full cost of dedicated, comprehensive care, a private fee applies to many appointments.

How our billing works

Whether an appointment is bulk billed or attracts a fee depends on the type of service, your Medicare eligibility, and the practitioner you see.

Allied health and specialist appointments are privately billed.

For GP appointments, billing is set by each individual GP. As a general guide, for patients with a valid Medicare card, standard consultations, health assessments and GP Chronic Condition Management Plans are usually bulk billed, while other appointment types are generally privately billed. Some patients may also be bulk billed under specific eligibility categories. You can find your GP's individual billing details on their profile page.

Medicare rebates

For privately billed appointments, you pay the consultation fee and, where eligible, Medicare refunds a portion, leaving a gap payment that is your responsibility. SMSG offers Medicare EzyClaim, so eligible rebates can be paid back to your savings or debit card on the spot.

Knowing your costs

Our reception team can advise on expected costs and Medicare rebates, and you will be informed of any applicable fees before your appointment or procedure. If you're ever unsure about your billing, please ask when you book.

  • Saturdays & Weekends: Opening our practices on weekends incurs higher operational costs. All weekend appointments are privately billed for patients aged 16 and over. Children 15 and under, or patients holding a valid Government Concession Card, may be bulk-billed on Saturdays for standard routine consults with participating practitioners.

  • Deposits: Some appointments and specialised procedures require a deposit at the time of booking.

  • Cancellations & No-Shows: Cancellations made without sufficient notice, or failure to attend (no-shows), may result in the loss of this deposit or a fee. We ask that you give as much notice as possible if you need to reschedule.

Fees are reviewed annually.
