Fees and Billing Arrangement

All SMSG centres are MIXED Billing medical practices. Each individual doctor (Specialist GPs and non-GP Specialists) and allied health professional are individual tenant practitioners (i.e., not employee doctor/practitioner) in our SMSG practice premises, and they set their own consultation fee schedules.

The GPs (except those listed below) BULK BILL any patients with a valid Medicare Card for most of the routine consultations.

Certain consultations are not allowed to be bulk billed under Medicare rules e.g., Worker Compensation Claims, Commercial Drivers Medical Assessments, Cosmetic procedures, Occupation/Job Medical Assessments, Railway Industry Medicals, Boxer Competition Medicals, etc. If you are not sure, please speak to the reception staff when you make an appointment.

Mental Health Care Plan Consultations:

Please note as of 1st July 2023, most Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) consultations will incur a private fee with a Medicare rebate available (with a valid Medicare card) for all existing and new patients. The out-of-pocket fee ranges from $65-$150, depending on the length and/or complexity of the consultation.

Procedural & Vaccination Fee Schedule:

To ensure we can continuously provide excellent surgical services and to ensure patients the highest quality of hospital graded surgical equipment and materials, a private billing arrangement and $50 deposit is applied to the following procedures, with patients holding a valid Medicare Card receiving a Medicare Rebate:*(Terms & Conditions Apply)

  1. Complete Woman's Health Check includes Cervical Screening Test and Breast Check

  2. Skin Check or Skin lesion / Skin cancer removal

  3. Suturing of laceration

  4. Plastering of fracture

  5. Implanon/Mirena IUD insertion and / or removal

  6. Treatment room procedures

  7. Private Vaccines >$100

Telehealth Fee Schedule:

Due to the sudden Medicare and Government policy changes in recent weeks, it has become extremely difficult for medical practices to continue providing these services without violating the 5-step onerous Medicare rules the government has set for both the practice and the patient. We have no choice but to commence charging all Telehealth appointments privately with a Medicare rebate.

Effective Monday, 9th of October, a $95 fee will apply for any telehealth services. A DISCOUNTED fee of $75 will apply to patients 15 years or below and concession card holders. A Medicare rebate is available for those with a valid Medicare card, which we can process for you.

 SATURDAY ONLY Fee Schedule:
  • 16yrs & above without a government issued concession card will incur a small gap fee for consultations, after Medicare rebate.

  • Non-Medicare holders with Allianz/AHM/Medibank BUPA insurances will incur a $45 gap fee for consultations.

  • 15yrs & under will continue to be BULK BILLED!

  • Concession card holders will continue to be BULK BILLED!

With the ongoing economic recession, many medical practices are struggling to sustain their practices without compromising patient care. Given the following:

  1. Operating costs dramatically increased due to unsustainable inflation.

  2. Staff salaries increased from the 1st of July as per government requirements.

  3. Staff operating costs are 1.5x on Saturdays.

  4. The government has only increased the Medicare rebate for consultations by $1.

For us to sustain the running of our Saturday clinics, we have made the only decision available, to introduce the above fee schedule. We will continue to BULK BILL routine consultations MONDAY-FRIDAY. This new gap fee arrangement ONLY applies on SATURDAYS.
