Neurologists assess and manage a wide range of conditions, from common presentations like migraine and peripheral neuropathy through to complex stroke, epilepsy and neurodegenerative diseases.
For most patients, neurology involvement is coordinated with your GP. Your GP identifies a concern, prepares a referral, and continues as your primary point of contact for general care while the specialist advises on the neurological question. Where imaging or procedural intervention is required, the specialist coordinates that pathway through their hospital appointments.

He assesses and manages the full range of neurological presentations, and takes referrals from GPs inside and outside our group. Where hospital-based imaging or intervention is required, he coordinates the pathway through his hospital appointments.

Specialist consultations at Excelsia are private billing, with a Medicare rebate applying when a valid GP referral is in place. Fees vary by specialist and by the complexity of the consultation. Reception confirms the specific fee and expected out-of-pocket for your chosen specialist when you book.

Do I need a GP referral?
Yes. A GP referral is required for the Medicare rebate to apply. Your usual GP or one of ours can prepare it.
What should I bring?
Your GP referral, any recent imaging (MRI, CT, angiography), pathology, existing neurology or hospital discharge summaries, a list of your current medications, and a symptom diary if you have one.
Is this an interventional service?
Neurology at Excelsia is a consultative and non-interventional service. Where an interventional procedure or hospital admission is indicated, your specialist coordinates onward referral through their hospital appointments.
What if my symptoms are severe or acute?
If you're experiencing symptoms of a possible stroke (sudden weakness, face droop, difficulty speaking, sudden severe headache), call 000. Neurology consultations are for non-urgent specialist review, not acute emergencies.
How often will I need to come back?
That depends on your condition. Some patients need one consultation and go back to GP-led care; others need ongoing specialist review.
Do you write back to my GP?
Yes. After the consultation, the specialist writes back to your GP with the assessment, plan, and any recommended follow-up.
