Obstetrics and gynaecology covers pregnancy care and the specialist medical and surgical management of women's reproductive health across the lifespan. Referrals cover a wide range of clinical scenarios: pregnancy management, menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, endometriosis, fibroids, contraception where specialist input helps, menopause care, and preconception planning.
For most patients, the specialist works alongside your GP. Your GP identifies a concern, prepares a referral, and continues as your primary point of contact for general care while the specialist advises on the obstetric or gynaecological question. For pregnancy care, the specialist often coordinates alongside Aurora antenatal shared care and your hospital of birth.

Dr Aye Thidar Htun is an obstetrician and gynaecologist consulting at Excelsia Specialists Centre in Earlwood. She works alongside the Aurora Women & Babies Health team for antenatal shared care and coordinated women's specialist gynaecology, and takes referrals from GPs inside and outside our group.
Privately billed.
Specialist consultations at Excelsia are private billing, with a Medicare rebate applying when a valid GP referral is in place. Fees vary by specialist and by the complexity of the consultation. Reception confirms the specific fee and expected out-of-pocket for your chosen specialist when you book.

Do I need a GP referral?
Yes. A GP referral is required for the Medicare rebate to apply. Your usual GP or one of ours can prepare it.
What should I bring?
Your GP referral, any recent imaging (ultrasound, MRI), pathology results, cervical screening history, a list of your current medications, and any hospital discharge summaries relevant to the reason for referral.
Can Excelsia coordinate with Aurora shared care?
Yes. Where obstetric input is needed alongside antenatal shared care through Aurora, our specialists and your Aurora GP coordinate care and communicate on your management plan.
Is this a surgical service?
Excelsia obstetrics and gynaecology is a consultative service. Where a surgical procedure is indicated, your specialist coordinates onward referral or admission through their hospital appointments.
Do you deliver babies at Excelsia?
No. Deliveries occur at the specialist's admitting hospital. Antenatal review and postnatal follow-up can be arranged at Excelsia in coordination with your delivering hospital.
How often will I need to come back?
That depends on the reason for referral. Some patients are seen once and return to GP-led care; others need ongoing specialist review across a pregnancy or a condition's management.
