This role is designed for people who want to build a long‑term career in healthcare, not just “do reception.” It offers a clear pathway into practice management and specialised areas such as accounts, finance, HR, quality, projects and business development, supported by our dedicated Management & Leadership Development Program.
From the beginning, you’ll receive structured training in core medical administration, followed by opportunities to gradually expand your responsibilities. Over time, you can become involved in higher‑level tasks such as reporting, rostering support, billing and accounts, audit and quality activities, recruitment assistance, or supporting new projects and service launches.
Development at SMSG is practical and ongoing. You’ll have access to 1:1 development check‑ins, targeted workshops, and on‑the‑job learning through job shadowing and cross‑training across different sites and teams. You’ll be encouraged to explore different areas of interest, “try on” tasks in HR, finance, operations or patient experience, and work with senior staff who are invested in mentoring you.
Many of our senior administrators and Practice Operations team members started in roles just like this one and progressed internally as they demonstrated initiative, reliability and a genuine interest in practice operations. If you’re ambitious, curious and excited by the idea of growing into a leadership or specialist role within medical practice management, this position offers the support, structure and opportunities to help you get there.
